Past Conferences

The 2023 National Environmental Justice Conference and Training Program was held March 7-9, 2023 in conjunction with Race Forward’s “Justice and Equity: From the Inside Out” TrainingProgram for Federal Civil Servants. Environmental Justice (“EJ”) leaders came together for thisannual gathering to engage communities as full partners in collaborative solutions to the manyissues and challenges affecting the nation today. There were more than 700 participants in attendance over the 3-day conference, including representatives from Federal, State, and local government agencies; public and private sector organizations; nonprofits; and academicinstitutions. Highlights of the program included keynote addresses by Assistant Democratic Leader, U.S. Congressional Representative, James E. Clyburn (6 th District, SC), Willie L. Phillips, Chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, David Turk, Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy, Dr. Jalonne L. White-Newsome, Senior Director for Environmental Justice, The White House Council on Environmental Quality, and Amelia Dunlop, Chief Experience Officer, Deloitte Digital and Best Selling Author of “Elevating the Human Experience and The Four Factors of Trust.”

The conference theme was Fully Integrating and Institutionalizing Environmental Justice and Equity. The conference agenda was filled with three days of thought-provoking panels, over 30 workshops and several video presentations and film screenings. There were numerous opportunities to hear from young people, activists, and others from all over the country who are engaged in and committed to the principles of EJ.
