Rose Scott, a native New Mexican, is employed by URS Washington TRU Solutions, the management and operating contractor for the DOE Carlsbad Field Office at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant. Scott has been involved in governmental affairs efforts at the WIPP facility for more than 12 years.  As a former magistrate judge, former president of the New Mexico Democratic Women and current president of the Hobbs Hispano Chamber Foundation, Scott has done a lot of listening—and translating.   Her Spanish-speaking skills have made her a key liaison at community meetings and asset to the WIPP Joint Information Center, should the need arise for emergency public information. Scott said she looks forward to participating in the conference, which includes a training program that allows federal employees and others to earn professional-level education credit.  The National Environmental Justice Conference and Training Program brings together representatives from federal and state agencies, local governments, tribes, community groups, business and other entities to engage in a variety of environmental justice strategies related to land use, mitigation of environmental hazards and socioeconomics.
